Dr. Serpa  was the director of the minority geosciences program for the years shown above. All of the trip alumni will remember Dr. Serpa as a combination of professor, organizer, and mother. She kept the group supplied with food and other needs as well in her free time , discussing science concepts with students. She is a strong supporter of Minority Awareness Programs.  She is currently a Professor of Geophysics at the University of Texas El Paso and works with a minority program there,

Dr. Lisa White, San Francisco State: 2004, 2005

Since San Francisco Rocks  joined the field trip in 2004 and 2005 students those years were fortunate to have  Dr. White along on those trips.  She taught geology and discussed any other topic that students have on their mind.  It was not unusual to see a group of students gathered around together in front of her cabin in the evening , discussing a variety of topics.

High School Teachers

The teachers that accompany the group on the trip are one of the reasons the program is so successful. they help organize the students were parties to review the students journals.  Help the students understand scientific concepts that are being taught. They are the backbone of the program. Below are some of the teachers who have come along on past trips.

Graduate Students

Over the years , graduate students from UNO and San Francisco State have provided mentoring and leadership to the students on a trip.  The students whose disciplines of have ranged from geology to geophysics to meteorology. besides helping students with scientific concepts.  They performed many other services such as helping comfort homesick students , and insuring the safety of the students , while on a trip. Below are a few pictures of some of the many graduate students who have been on the trips.

 Sponsor ( Oil Company) Geoscientists

Geoscientists from the sponsoring companies have also attended the trip and shared with the students the types of jobs and opportunities available to graduates in earth sciences. Some of these scientists have on taught portions of the trip or helped in other ways to make the trip successful.

   Guest Scientists, Naturalists and Guides

As we visit various places on the trip, National Park Rangers, mine geologists, and other professionals with local experience , have joined us to share their enthusiasm and knowledge.
